LSU Purple Fig - Buy Fig Tree

LSU Purple was developed by Louisiana State University's fig breeding program and is a variety that is particularly well adapted to hot, humid growing conditions found in Florida and the rest of the US Southeast.
Fruits have a light pink/strawberry color and good rich sugar fig flavor but not overly sweet that typically ripen in June/July most years.
Good variety for container culture and unlike most other figs, can be grown in ground as this variety has some degree of root knot nematode tolerance (an extremely common soil pest in Florida that can reduce plant vigor and lifespan) That being said if you are interested in growing this species in ground, we highly recommend heavy soil amendment with good quality compost, crab meal (which breaks down into chitinase, a chemical which is nematocidal) and deep mulching for the best success.
